C12 - Family Reunion

This is the best block to describe last weekend.  We went for a braai at Danie and Jacolize in Sunninghill to meet their newly adopted cat kids.  It was a lovely reunion with good food, champagne and beautiful cat grandkids.  The weather of early spring has been kind to us. Promising long balmy summer's evenings on the patio.

C11 - Soldiers and Sailors Monument

In blood red, I suppose it is apt.  I don't think anyone likes war and fighting.  Yet we do it with so much vigor. Misplaced patriotism? Money, power and greed?  I don't like war and fighting.  Yet I do it with so much vigor.

C10 - Patriot's Lantern

Patriot - a person feeling a strong support for their country.  Our national anthem says: "comes the call to come together, and united we shall stand: let us live and strive for freedom, in South Africa our land.  So tonight, I light this lantern for South Africa.  Still the best place to be!

C8 - Hani's Crown

Blue and turcoise. Swirls and stars.  This doesn't look like a crown to me, but today I can feel the first warmth pf spring. After a long winter I long for the mild summer nights with a blue velvet sky, dotted with stars.  I love African skies.

C4 - Tic Tac Toe

Or naughts and crosses.  Mauve and light. Like a summer might, looking through a windowpane.  I'll escape a little later and leave the frame behind to look at the purple sky.  Now it is winter.

D4 - Crystal Star

After doing a series of online appliqué courses it looks like my understanding of the teqnique is improving.  Might it be that this black star becomes my shining star of hope?

C6 - Ashley's Aura

Midnight blue. This is probably my most favourite colour.  Simple in 3 pieces only.

C5 - Eye of the Cyclone

Busy with Dear Jane again.  In the eye of the storm?

J4 - Adelaine's Apron Strings

That sounds like apple crumble. Sveltering heat here in Pretoria and icy winter in the Northeren Hemisphere.  I have a little snowflake in the fabric.

C3 - Rayelle's Fence

Rayelle has a lattice fence. What a nice contrast between red and light.  Straight patches.  A good change after C2.

C2 - Streak of lightning

This block took a couple of hours to draft on EQ7.  Still not right IMHO. First try.  Let's see when i make the next version.  We had a wicked thunderstorm while I was making it.  I love the energy of a Highveld thunderstorm.

F8 - Church window

Scorching Sunday - out almost all day because it is Fairy Lemondrop's birthday. I can't believe Peyton is 3 already. A blessing that she is even alive and what a blessing she is in our lives. I finished the church window block to remind us all how precious you are.

B-13 Four corner press

Watching cricket with the hubby.  Chris Gayle is hitting fours all over the place in the 1 day international between the West Indies and SA. Cricket pitch green. A quick one on a Friday night.

G8 - Justin's Comet

Done while watching athletics. Hand pieced and finger pressed.

So far so good.

After making 2 blocks in the wrong colours, this grid I can access from my phone that is always with me...
Do you also, sometimes, make stupid mistakes?

Ai!

G7 Indianapolis

I'm not so sure where exactly this is. I'll have to go and Google it. For me, this block looks like a shield and weapons.  I'm ready for the new year with my weapons. Patience, love, empathy and a good sence of humor.

B12 - Starflower

Today, while we were travelling through the scorcing Namaqualand (semi desert) it was fitting to finish rhis little yellow flower. People come from all over the world to see the miracle of springtime when this part of the world explodes in a carpet od flowers. Simple in construction, like the Starflower, each little flower, for only a couple of days, bursts out in a colourful song.

B11 - Melissa's Cross

I dont know Malissa, but wonder about her cross. Was it a difficult cross to carry?  At the end, we prefer to carry our own cross. This is my cross. The holiday in Cape Town is drawing to a close.  I'm going to miss dearest little Cylus when we're gone.

I cant wait to get home to press and square these off.
